Wilma Berry Obituary

Funeral Services for Mrs. Wilma Joy Berry, 88, of Chester will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Saint Luke Baptist Church in San Augustine with Reverend Timothy Teel officiating. Interment will follow in the Saint Luke Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Corrigan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Berry went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 16, 2019. She was born in San Augustine on February 11, 1931 to the late Felix and Pearl (Moore) Lane.

Wilma was of the Baptist faith and a long-time member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. She married the late Robert Earl Berry on October 19, 1946. They later moved to Chester, where they made their home. Mrs. Berry was an active member in her church, serving as president of missions, a Sunday school teacher, and the president of the usher board. She was also the founder of family and friend’s day at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church. Wilma loved the Lord with all her heart and reading God’s word and attending church was top priority. She was known as being the first uber driver there was, taking family and friends to their doctor appointments and grocery shopping. Lending a helping hand to those in need was very important to her as well.

Mrs. Berry is survived by her sons, Ben Earl Berry of Chester; Carlos Berry (Jennifer) of Chester; Curtis Berry Jr. (Shenskina) of Lufkin; daughters, Evelyn Berry Barnes of Lufkin; Wilma Berry White of Chester; brothers, Bobby Lane of San Augustine; Roy Lane (Barbara) of Beaumont; sisters, Nancy Clay (James) of San Augustine; Cammie Lane of Cypress; Jimmie Nash of San Augustine; sister-in-law, Mozelle Marshall of Chester; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Pearl Lane; husband, Robert Earl Berry; sons, Waymon Berry and Curtis Berry Sr.; brothers, Nathaniel Lane and Jessie Lane; sister, Lizzie Mae Price.

Serving as Pallbearers: Michael Barnes Jr., Noel Hood, Clarence Bennett, Deon Nash, Robert Berry, and Cedric Spears.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bobby Lane, Samuel Darden, Roy R. Lane, and Mose Marshall
