Mr. Watson passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Houston, after a lengthy 20 year battle with cancer.

Ronnie Watson was born in Corrigan on August 8, 1940, the son of Joe Bartley and Minnie Ola Maxey Watson.  He was raised in Corrigan where he and his siblings were taught from an early age just how important family and good values were.  Ronnie graduated from Corrigan High School where he played basketball.  He then honorably served in the US Navy and played basketball there as well.  While stationed in Kingsville, he met Sandra Hughes and the two were married in 1961.  Ronnie began working for Sysco and they moved to Houston and began their family, raising their 2 sons and instilling the same values that Ronnie was so adamantly taught.  Ronnie was very proud of the men Joey and Mark became and took great pride in knowing they were men of God and loved their family.  Ronnie was a great father and enjoyed the years of Joey and Mark playing football and baseball.  He also loved being able to take them fishing to his favorite spots!

After working for Sysco for over 25 years, he was able to enjoy retirement.  In 1999, he sadly said goodbye to his precious Sandra.  Although he was missing his traveling partner, he continued driving anywhere he wanted and seeing the beauty of our great land.  He absolutely loved to travel. However, some of his greatest joys came from being a “Poppa”.  He loved his grandchildren without boundaries and was happy when he had them around.

Ronnie is survived by his sons, Joey Watson and wife, Kim of Conroe and Mark Watson and wife, Cindy of Pearland; grandchildren, Ronnie Watson & wife, Rachael of Montgomery, Reese Watson of Houston, Chris Watson of Denver, Colorado, Christine Watson of Austin, Garrett Taylor of Pearland and Grant Taylor of Pearland; great granddaughter, Hayden Armstrong of Montgomery; sister, Merle Dabney of Cold Springs and numerous nieces, nephews and other beloved family members.

He is preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sandra Kay Hughes Watson; parents, Joe & Minnie Watson; brother, J.B. Watson & wife, Eileen; sister, Charlie Faye Strong & husband, Rudy and his brother-in-law, Leroy Dabney.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joey Watson, Mark Watson, Ronnie Watson, Reese Watson, Chris Watson and Christine Watson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Ronnie’s memory to VA Hospital at 2002 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77030 or MD Anderson Cancer Center at 1515 Holcombe Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77030.
