Tom Clemens Obituary

Graveside Services for Tom Clemens, 85, of Corrigan will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan with Pastor Kelly Havard officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Clemens was born on March 18, 1936 in Cravens, La to Charles Arnold and Melba Leona Goins and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 30, 2021 in Lufkin.

Tom was a Pentecostal by faith and a member of New Life UPC in Corrigan. He graduated from Rosepine High School in 1955. After high school, he attended LSU and studied business. During college, he met Carolyn Bailey and it was love at first sight. After a short courtship, they married on December 25, 1956 and spent more than 64 wonderful years together.  He worked at Camp Polk in the maintenance department for 5 years. Later, he worked for Montgomery Ward in retail. He managed various stores over the years and retired after 19 years of service. After retirement, he went to work at Fort Polk on the military base. He had an opportunity to train the new military members to prepare for war in Afghanistan. He retired in 2016 at the age of 80, after 12 years. He and Carolyn move to Corrigan in 2016, where they made their final earthly home.

Tom was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was known as “Popsi” and carried the title proudly. His favorite team was the LSU Tigers.  He enjoyed attending church and spending time in God’s word. He had the gentlest soul and always had a smile on his face. Tom loved his family whole-heartedly, something he often mentioned. He was also a wonderful Christian man who loved the Lord with all his heart. His most favorite times of the day were watching the sunrise and the sunset. The moment God called him home, he was gazing at the sun and talking about how beautiful it was. He made many friends over the years and will be remembered by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Tom is survived by his wife of 64 years, Carolyn Clemens, daughters and sons-in-law, Debi and Dewayne Durham and Charlotte and Jimmy Huffman; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Tracy Clemens , Chris and Roxanne Clemens, and Jamie Clemens; grandchildren, Shasta Adams, Jennifer Miller, Dustin Durham, Crystal Farr, Lacy Arnold, Tarah Richart, Lindsey Jeffers, Kyle Baker, Tyson Clemens, Tori Hood, Amber Victor, Ashleigh Sharp, Brandon Clemens, Heather Smith, Christian, and Jesse; great grandchildren, Kolbie, Kaycee, Kyson, Moli, Milo, Finley, Brilee, Bentlee, Ellie, Johnny Bruce, Layli, Lexie Kay, Westin Lee, Lydia Grace, Lynnlee, Luke, Josiah, Carter, Katherine, Joey, Kellan, William, Jaxon, Clayton, Quinn, and Zane; great-great grandchild, Kaine Wade and numerous other relatives and friends.
