Paul Smith Obituary

Funeral Services for Paul Edward “Eddie” Smith, 68, of Corrigan will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Apple Springs. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 from 6-8 p.m.

Ed finished his earthly journey on Monday, September 28, 2020 and went home to be with the Lord. He was born in Corrigan on June 10, 1952 to the late Carroll Lewis Smith and Johnnie Marjean (Best) Smith.

At the age of 19, Ed started working for Lufkin Industries. After a short tenure, he was promoted to structural welder. In 2015, he retired with 44 years of service. On August 10, 1979, Ed was joined in marriage to his soul mate, Debra Lynn Schoubroek. He remained faithfully by her side until her passing on May 30, 2010.

Although Ed spent most of his life working and providing for his family, he loved his boys very much. They made great memories on their coon hunting trips. He raised “chickens” and would travel to Louisiana to try his luck, not always coming home a winner.

In his younger years, Ed enjoyed two-stepping and even taught his son Kevin how to dance. Ed was a “true blue” Bulldog fan, especially when his son Keith was in high school. Every Friday night, he could be found at the stadium, whether home or an away game.

Ed spent most of his time at the ball field watching his grandchildren Mason and Keely and nephews, Dylan and Blake play ball. Later, Ed joined Keith in coaching.

He looked forward to deer season each year, always in hope of getting the “big one”. During family gatherings, he enjoyed playing spades and “42” and was sure hard to beat.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Debra Lynn Smith.

He is survived by his sons, Kelly Wood of Conroe; Kevin Smith and wife Anne of New Caney; and Keith Smith of Corrigan; brother, Pete Brown and wife Brenda of Katy; sisters, Charlotte Helm and husband Alvin of Corrigan; and Sandy Smith of San Antonio; grandchildren, Michael Wood, Amber Cooper, Mason Smith, Kaleigh Smith, Keely Smith, and Colin Smith; great grandchildren, Kohen Smith, Robert Wayne Ivy, Haisley Ivy, and Tate Smith; sisters-in-law, Tina Schoubroek and Lisa Schoubroek both of Livingston and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Mason Smith, Colin Smith, Dylan Davidson, David Helm, Stephen Helm, Cory Ivy, and Rodney Latham.

Honorary Pallbearers: Glenn Hopson, Kenneth Ross, David Doughty, Gary Currie, and Blake Davidson.
