Marcus Stults Greenwood, Jr., 82, of Corrigan passed away on May 28, 2024, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Marcus was born on November 19, 1941, in Trenton, New Jersey, to the late Marcus Greenwood, Sr. and Vera Howell. A graveside service was held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Stryker Cemetery in Corrigan.
Marcus, or Greeny or Mark as he was affectionately known, grew up in Highlands, Texas. He was a graduate of Deer Park High School. Mark joined the Navy straight out of high school. He spent 9 ½ years in service to his country, partly on board the USS Greenlet. While in the Navy, Marcus completed the military requirements for Petty Officer 1 and C, Naval training course for RD 3 and 2, and Naval training course for RD 1 and C. Mark was awarded a Good Conduct Award, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal during his time in the Navy. He bravely served during the Vietnam War.
Mark met the love of his life while in Huffman, Texas. He and Elizabeth were wed on July 6, 1984, in Tarkington, Texas. They would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this year. Mark was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing on a quiet lake, and gardening. Mark was a very giving person and devoted his time to volunteering at the Corrigan Food Pantry. He was a dedicated steward of the church, taking care of the church and his church family. Mark was an Ordained Deacon and Sunday school teacher at Wakefield Baptist Church, where he was a member for many years. Mark was loved by many and his loss will be felt in their hearts but his love will live on through his family and friends.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Brown Greenwood; daughters, Deborah Kerley and husband, Scott, Lisa Gainer, and Teresa Clark; grandchildren, Ryan Gibson, Kelly Gibson, Jennifer Nunley and husband, Wes, Tiffany Clark, Johnny Clark and wife, Shannon, Dylan Clark and wife, Crystal, Thomas Kerley and wife, Katelyn, and Kevin Kerley; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Calli, Brynlee, Waylon, Karma, Kynzi, Kali, Sean, Elena, Wyatt, Collin, Eloise, and Clara; sisters, Cynthia Slayden and Blanche Pollard; brothers, Bobby Greenwood, William Greenwood and wife, Peggy, and Matthew David Greenwood and wife, Kathy; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Marcus Greenwood, Sr.; mother, Vera Howell; stepmother, Anastasia Greenwood; great-grandson, Johnny Clark, Jr.; and brother, Grant Greenwood.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Gibson, Johnny Clark, Dylan Clark, Wes Nunley, Levi Hurley, and Glenn Blanchard.
