Funeral Services for Leslie “Butch” John Schetat, 83, of Corrigan will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Corrigan Funeral Home with Pastor William “Peanut” Glass officiating. Interment will follow in the Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Schetat was born on December 5, 1937 in Galveston to the late John and Lottie (Russell) Schetat and passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021 in Cypress.

Butch graduated in 1956 from George Ball High School in Galveston. After graduation, He joined the United States Army and proudly served his country. During his military tenure, he was stationed in Germany and served during the Berlin Conflict. On November 25, 1970, he married the love of his life, Ellen Kennedy. The two raised 6 children and 3 grandchildren. He worked for Texas Fiberglass as a plant operator for many years. He was forced to retire due to the company going out of business. He and his wife, Ellen decided to open a daycare business and operate it out of their home. It was very successful, and the business flourished for 15 years.

In his younger years, his hobby was operating the HAM and CB radios. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. When his granddaughters, Kim and Robin were young, he helped coach them in softball. He looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved playing spades and 42 in dominoes. Butch was known for cooking the best BBQ brisket. Woodworking was a hobby he was passionate about and could build just about anything that came to mind. He and his family vacationed to many states and took many camping trips. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Dennis Day and Michael Day; daughter, Mary Joyce Day; grandsons, Johnny Day, Bert Fitzgerald, and Dennis Day Jr.; daughter-in-law, Vicki Day.

Butch is survived by his wife, Ellen Schetat of Corrigan; sons, Jimmy Day Sr. and fiancé Trena Smith of Corrigan; Bobby Day and fiancé Erica Thomason of Corrigan; daughters, Beverly Martinez and husband David of Galveston and Darlene Schetat; grandchildren, Kimberly Sue Jones, Jimmy Day Jr., Robin Gail Hood, Jerry Day, Michelle Gonzales, David Martinez Jr., Michael Martinez, Melissa Reeves, Shawn Day, Christopher Day, Robert Kabus, Misty Kabus, Marty Day, Michael Day Jr., Christine Day, Crystal Day, Angel Dorris, Travis Bell, and Angela Bell and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.    

A special thank you to Lisa Day for helping take care of grandpa in his final days.
