Jessie Earl Barefield

Funeral Services for Jessie Earl Barefield, 66, of Dayton will be held Friday, October 7, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in the Damascus Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Following the graveside, the family will welcome friends and family to Carmona Community Church for a meal and fellowship. All is welcome to come.

Jessie was born August 24, 1956, in Cleveland, TX to Henry Jessie and Daisy Juanita (Henderson) Barefield and passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Dayton, TX.  

Jessie was a Baptist by faith and a member of Leggett Baptist Church; he also attended Carmona Community Church in Corrigan. He graduated from Chester High School in 1974. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering with things. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him the most joy. His favorite sport was baseball, and he could be found watching the Astros every chance he got. He worked for Louisiana Pacific, Brown and Root, and Georgia Pacific. He worked his way up from a maintenance hand to a maintenance superintendent. He eventually left Georgia Pacific/LP to become a plant manager at North American Procurement Plant, a small chip mill in Cleveland, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Pat McCarty; sister, Ruth Ann Kimball; and son-in-law, Michael Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Barefield; daughters, Vicki Lacy and husband Robert; and Stephanie Smith; sons, Stephen Barefield and wife Angela; and Billy Brewer and wife Vanessa; sister, Patricia Howard and husband Bill; brothers, John David Barefield, Rusty Barefield  and wife Becki; and Jeff Barefield; grandchildren, Jonathan Lacy and wife Mary, Kyle Lacy, Anthony Rigmaiden, Chloe Barefield, Alyssa Smith, Ian Smith, Adley Smith, Sophia Brewer, Benjamin Brewer, and Brazos Brewer and numerous other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers: Robert Lacy, Jonathan Lacy, Kyle Lacy, Stephen Barefield, Anthony Rigmaiden, Ian Smith, Billy Brewer, Benjamin Brewer, and Brazos Brewer.
