Ellen Schetat Obituary

Dee was born on February 13, 1931 in Groveton, Tx. to the late Edward and Dollie (Hollis) Kennedy and passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in Lufkin, Tx.

On November 25, 1970, she married the love of her life, Butch Schetat. Together they raised 6 children and 3 grandchildren. She worked many years at Weingarten’s grocery store in Galveston before retiring. She then decided to open Dee’s Daycare at her home, which was very successful, and she took care of many children for the 15 years it was open.

In her younger years she was a Red Cross Volunteer, even while working several jobs to make ends meet. She loved camping and traveling across the country with her family. She also loved cooking for her family and anyone who came into her home during the holidays. She loved gardening and especially tending to her rose bushes.

She was called by many names such as Momma, Grandma, Granny and Granny Dee. She will be remembered for the love she gave to everyone including the daycare children, her family and anyone else that came around that were friends of the family.

Dee is preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Marie Kennedy.; brothers, Lent Edward Kennedy and Glenn Kennedy.; sons, Dennis Earl Day Sr. and Michael Edward Day Sr.; daughter, Mary Joyce Day; grandsons, Johnny Day,  Bert Fitzgerald, and Dennis Day Jr.; daughter-in-law, Vicki Day.

Dee is survived by her brother, Lynn Kennedy and wife Jean of Corrigan; children; sons, Jimmy Day Sr of Corrigan., Robert (Bobby) Day and wife Erica of Corrigan; daughter, Beverly Sue Martinez and husband David of Galveston; grandchildren, Kimberly Sue Jones, Jimmy Day Jr., Robin Gail Hood, Jerry Day, Michelle Gonzales, David Martinez Jr., Michael Martinez,  Melissa Reeves, Shawn Day, Christopher Day, Robert Kabus, Misty Kabus, Marty  Day, Michael Day Jr., Christine Day, Crystal Day, Angel Day (Dorris), Travis Bell, Angela Bell and Amberlee Day. As well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
