Dee was born on February 13, 1931 in Groveton, Tx. to the late Edward and Dollie (Hollis) Kennedy and passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 in Lufkin, Tx.
On November 25, 1970, she married the love of her life, Butch Schetat. Together they raised 6 children and 3 grandchildren. She worked many years at Weingarten’s grocery store in Galveston before retiring. She then decided to open Dee’s Daycare at her home, which was very successful, and she took care of many children for the 15 years it was open.
In her younger years she was a Red Cross Volunteer, even while working several jobs to make ends meet. She loved camping and traveling across the country with her family. She also loved cooking for her family and anyone who came into her home during the holidays. She loved gardening and especially tending to her rose bushes.
She was called by many names such as Momma, Grandma, Granny and Granny Dee. She will be remembered for the love she gave to everyone including the daycare children, her family and anyone else that came around that were friends of the family.
