Dan Moody Arledge, aged 96, died on January 7, 2023, in Portage, Michigan. He will be missed by his daughter Sue (Brian) Bowron and sons Dana (Valerie) Arledge and Donald (Sharon) Arledge. He leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Born in Merryville, Louisiana to James Edward and Essie Wright Arledge, he remained the last of four brothers and three sisters. He will rest at Wheeler Cemetery in Corrigan, Texas next to his wife Vona Perkins Arledge. His second wife Gloria Harvey also predeceased him.
Dan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and spent most of his career as a pressman with the Detroit Free Press, the Houston Chronicle, and the Miami Herald. He was a licensed boat captain and worked on various tugboats on the Gulf of Mexico, a whale watching boat in Cape Cod, and as crew on Great Lake freighters.
He was known for his endless stories, bottomless cups of coffee, reckless use of salt and hot sauce, and absolute opinions. For the Arledge family, Dan is the last of a generation.
