Memorial Services for Clayton Maynard Bergman Jr. will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Corrigan Funeral Home with Pastor Charlie Hodge officiating. Interment will follow in the Union Springs Cemetery.
Clayton Jr. was born on November 16, 1946, in Shreveport, La to Clayton M. and Billie Harrell Bergman. The Lord called him home on May 18, 2022, from the San Diego, Ca VA Hospital.
Clayton Jr. is preceded in death by father, Clayton Sr. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, married July 25, 1991, Susan R. Bergman of El Cajon, CA; mother, Billie M. Bergman of Flint, TX; brother, William E. Bergman and wife, Martha of Blandon, PA; and sister, Cindy K. Burkard of Flint.
Clayton Jr. was married November 21, 1970, to Judith Spell Vaughn for 13 years and they were blessed with two loving children; daughter, Wendy C. Bergman Zellers and husband Robert of Deer Park; and son, Kelly W. Bergman and wife Denise of Deer Park; grandsons, Noah K. Lamb, Aaron R. Lamb, and Isaac W. Bergman all of Deer Park; granddaughter, Emili K. Pool and husband Matthew of Pearland; and great granddaughter, Savannah G. Pool of Pearland. Being a loving, Christian, close-knit family, Clayton Jr. is also survived by numerous cousins, their spouses, and families.
At the age of 12, Clayton Jr. was baptized and joined the Baptist church at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. Throughout his life, Clayton Jr. was a faithful servant for Christ. As active members of their church, Clayton Jr. and Susan witnessed to all they met. Clayton Jr. brought his hospital roommate to the Lord before his own passing. Clayton Jr. is at last without pain, happily with his Lord and so many loved ones of family and friends rejoicing.
Clayton Jr. graduated from Friendswood High School. As his father served 20 years in the military service, Clayton Jr. attended a variety of schools. Beginning with Albuquerque, NM; Japan, California, Ohio, and Houston, ending in Friendswood.
During the summer in Houston, Clayton Jr. volunteered as a candy stripper at a local hospital. After graduating, he joined the Navy. He served on a repair ship in Vietnam, later stationed in Guam, serving as an Illustrator/Draftsman, transferring to the Naval Station in San Diego, CA. Clayton Jr. was one of only 200 Illustrator/Draftsman in the entire Navy Fleet.
In 1994, after almost 18 years of service, Clayton Jr. received an Honorable Medical Discharge as a 2nd Class Petty Officer, due to injuries suffered in Vietnam that expanded over time.
